The parish council is the lowest tier of local government. They are an essential part of the structure of local democracy and have a key role in acting on behalf of the community.
As well as representing the interests of the whole community, the role of the parish council has a variety of powers and duties, all of which impact directly on the community, such as improving the social, economic, environmental and wellbeing of the village.
Parish Councillors are unpaid parishioners who are willing to stand for office. Elections are held every 4 years. A Parish Clerk is employed to ensure that the council conducts its business properly and to provide independent advice and support.
Parish councils meetings are held every 2 months. Villagers can attend meetings and contribute during the open session. From May 2021 meetings will be held at the village hall.
